A private residence in Las Vegas’ Spanish Trail community was chosen by the U.S. Green Building Council as the recipient of LEED Silver certification for its energy-efficient design and construction. The home is the third LEED certified residential project by Michael Gardner and one of only 68 homes with LEED certification in Southern Nevada. LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, offers a green building rating system for almost all buildings, community and home project types.
Cost-effective measures were taken such as sealing and insulation throughout the home to help offset the costs of heating and cooling. Plus, all materials used were sourced within a 500-mile radius.
Two home sites were combined to build the 8,120-square-foot single-story residence, which features four bedrooms, a library, media room and wine room in one section of the home. Two home offices and an expansive gym are situated on the opposite side to create a separate work area and exercise space. A four-car garage and separate two-car garage allows for ample car and storage space.
